Telethon Weekend 2008

(involving all of The Coffee Club stores in Western Australia)

Telethon Weekend 2008 was a huge success raising a record total of $7,535,678 for the children of Western Australia. An annual event, the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children (PMH) has received much-appreciated funding from Telethon since 1983. During that time, Telethon has provided more than $23 million in grants to PMH for the acquisition of state-of-the-art medical equipment, specialist facilities and research fellowships.

The Coffee Club was once again proud to be involved in this iconic event, providing coffee, tea and sweets to the 1500-something volunteers who manned the phones to receive donations.

The Coffee Club Strathpine CBR

Craig Pratt & Rebecca Ivkovich

The Coffee Club at Strathpine hosts and runs a High School Hospitality Competition to promote the study of hospitality in schools. A two-day event is held in May every year, where local schools participate in a ‘cook-off’. The cook-off requires students to cook, prepare and serve a number of dishes for judging by a select group of judges, including an accredited judge from the Australian Culinary Federation. A team of 6 students per school is required to enter (4 x BOH and 2 FOH).

The competition is held in the outdoor dining area at The Coffee Club Strathpine CBR. Tables of VIP guests are invited to come along and sample the meals cooked and served by the students.

Money prizes totaling over $2,000 are provided by a range of sponsors and a trophy is awarded to the winning school. The best BOH and FOH Team Members receive one day’s work experience at John Kilroy’s new seafood restaurant, Jellyfish.

This year’s winner was Clontarf Beach State High School. Well done!
